NZPS is a Doctoral Training Programme with PhD research opportunities at Northumbria University, the University of Leeds, the University of Reading, University of Lancaster, and the British Antarctic Survey (BAS) collaborating with ~42 external partners
General Entry Requirements
- Project-specific requirements will be listed on individual project adverts.
- First or 2.1 honours degree, or equivalent, in a subject relating to your proposed area of research.
- A Masters-level course in a relevant subject will be taken into consideration.
- Evidence of prior professional experience will also be taken into consideration.
- Non-UK qualifications of an equivalent standard are accepted.
English Language Requirements
You will need to provide evidence of a language qualification before registration as a postgraduate student if English is not your first language. The requirements for this will depend on the host university you are offered a place at.

English language test results must be not be more than 2 years old by the time you start your PhD degree.
Please note: You do not need to have an English Language qualification in place by the application deadline. We expect that students’ English language capability will be demonstrated sufficiently at interview. If you are offered a studentship without an up-to-date language test result, you will need to obtain the necessary qualifications before being made an offer from your host institution. If you require a visa to study in the UK, you will need to have an offer in place before applying for your visa.
